Following the route in our epic journey in 2015 the road brought us to the border off Nepal. Ever since Nepal first opened its borders to outsiders in the 1950s, this tiny mountain nation has had an irresistible mystical allure for travellers. Packed between the high wall of the Himalaya range and the steamy jungles of the Indian plains, Nepal is a land of snow peaks, yaks, monasteries and mantras.Today, trekkers in great numbers are drawn to the Himalaya’s most iconic and accessible hiking. Here someone can find the world’s best trails leading up to Mighty Everest and the Annapurnas Range and beyond. In a few words Nepal is nirvana for mountain lovers. For us was a scenic stop over on our way on driving through the Himalayas and into to China via Tibet as well as a beautiful peacefull alternative to bustling India..In our post section we have dedicated two of them in Nepal. You can click on the Links and go through our adventures……………………
Chapter 23/Nepal
Chapter 24/Nepal (Earthquake Strikes!!!!)
………………………..It was in Nepal that the Earthquake hit us. More than 7,500 people have died as a result of the 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal on April the 25th. The death toll could rise even higher, as thousands of people are still missing and remote villages are out of reach. More than 120 aftershocks left behind 14,500 people injured in the disaster which caused buildings to collapse. At least 2 million have been displaced. Fifty-eight camps have been set up to house roughly 37,500 people who have lost their homes. As a tribute, we dedicate this post to those who have lost their lives or their homes, wishing the survivors to reunite with their beloved ones as soon as possible.
As could be expected our plans changed dramatically.Still though we manage to recover and in 15 days later to be back on the road.
